It is hard to believe we have made it to the last month of Grade 2! The year has flown by and I am so amazed at how all my students have grown in their learning. Over the past two weeks we have had the opportunity to participate in some amazing field trips.
At the Leighton Centre we were able to explore the country and learn about the Leighton Family and their contributions to our local art community. Students were able to do some sketching as well as a special sculpture project using wire. The weather was perfect for our day there!
This week the students finished up their measurement project. After reading the book "Measuring Penny" which is a book about a girl named Lisa who has an important homework assignment--to measure something in several different ways. She has to use standard units like inches and nonstandard units like paper clips to find out height, width, length, weight, volume, temperature, and time. She decides to use her dog. Students were asked to bring in their own stuffy to do some measurements of. They recorded their measurements and then created a poster to represent them.
Tomorrow we are working on a fun measuring activity. Please have your child bring 1 stuffy to school for this activity.
It was a very busy week preparing for our evening performance of Willy Wonka. Thank you for coming out and supporting all the students hard work. They did an amazing job!!!
I hope everyone enjoyed a very Happy Easter with their families! Last week we were able to create some beautiful original Easter eggs by using the designs on paper napkins and using mod podge to attach them to the egg. They looked so beautiful! When studying Saskatoon, we discussed how the Ukrainian culture would create pysanky eggs using wax and dye to show intricate designs for Easter. The pysanky celebrates the rebirth of nature in the spring. We are hopeful that Spring is just around the corner!
Reminder: This Thursday evening is the Willy Wonka performance. Students are very excited to show you what we have been working on for the past few months! Students should arrive to First Alliance by 6pm.
I am also looking for Parent Volunteers to join us on our field trip on May 24th to the Leighton Art Centre. This will be a full day field trip and police security clearance is required. Please let me know if you are able to come with us that day.
This Wednesday morning we have a special artist coming in to teach our class how to do wet felting. I need a few parent volunteers to come and help us in the morning from 8:15 until 10:30. Please email me ASAP if you are able to help us out. It is really fun and interesting to do. Thanks so much!
