September Classroom updates
Toonies for Terry!
http://www.terryfox.ca/LeRoiDaniels
This week in Grade 2 we celebrated International Dot Day!
International Dot Day is staged to encourage people of all ages to harness their creativity. The inspiration behind the event is the children’s book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The story behind this book relates the tale of a teacher who challenges one of his female pupils, Vashti (who thinks she cannot draw), to take courage in her abilities. As the story progresses, from a simple dot on a page, the youngster goes on to make her mark.
Real-life teacher Terry Shay brought this book to his class in the late 2000s and it was this small gesture that sparked Dot Day to life. Since then, this day has grown from just one classroom to become a worldwide celebration each year. This is just one example that shows how a simple act can be like a spark that spreads joy and delight to people everywhere!
We used our creativity and knowledge of patterns to create our very own dots.
Indigo Love of Reading Fundraiser
We are thrilled and excited that our school has been adopted by Chapters Chinook! From September 13th to October 3rd, this store is going to fundraise on our behalf through donations done directly at the Chapters Chinook location. We’re also going to be raising funds to support our library through the direct fundraising page, located below. Please spread the work by sharing this link with family and friends.

Our school is going to receive every dollar raised to support our library and receive an additional 30% discount off books when we shop at Indigo & Chapters program donations. These funds will go long way to bringing more diverse and inclusive picture books to our classrooms.
Please help us by showing your support for our library and our school community! We look forward to surprising the staff and children at Le Roi Daniels School with all the new library books this year! Thank you for your continued support.

Welcome to Grade 2!
We have had a busy week in Grade 2 getting to know each other and settle into our classroom routines. Students worked on a book all about their summer holiday. We also completed a classroom graph and began our Social Studies unit on Communities in Canada.
We are going on a field trip to Granary Road on September 22, Please let me know if you can volunteer. Thanks!
We are excited to have been selected as the Love of Reading School for Chapters Chinook! The campaign runs from Sept. 13th-October 3rd. Donations given by customers at this store will be used to buy new books for Le Roi Daniels. In preparing for this campaign, all students at our school read the book "Pass it On" by Sophy Henn. We talked about ways that we can pass on kindness, then decorated bookmarks and made art themed around the book.
